AT89C51 8-Bit Microcontroller SMD IC
The AT89C51 is a high-performance, low-power CMOS 8-bit microcomputer from Atmel. It is built using the company’s high-density nonvolatile memory technology and is fully compatible with the industry-standard MCS-51 instruction set. This microcontroller serves as a powerful, monolithic chip that integrates a versatile 8-bit Central Processing Unit (CPU) with Flash memory, forming a complete embedded system on a single piece of silicon.
At the heart of the device is 4K bytes of in-system reprogrammable Flash memory, which serves as the program storage. This is complemented by 128 bytes of internal Random Access Memory (RAM) for data manipulation during operation. The chip is designed for fully static operation, allowing it to function from 0 Hz up to 24 MHz, providing flexibility in balancing processing speed and power consumption.
The device includes an on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry, requiring only an external crystal or resonator to establish the system clock. To enhance power efficiency in embedded applications, the AT89C51 supports two software-selectable power-saving modes: Idle Mode, which halts the CPU while allowing peripherals to run, and Power-down Mode, which freezes the oscillator to minimize power consumption while preserving RAM contents.
