The 07D391K is a voltage-dependent, nonlinear semiconductor component. Its primary function is to protect sensitive electronic circuits by acting as a high-impedance shunt under normal operating conditions. However, when a transient over-voltage event occurs and exceeds its specific threshold, the varistor instantly switches to a state of very low impedance.

Composition and Construction
This device is a multilayer structure composed primarily of zinc oxide (ZnO) grains mixed with other metal oxides, forming the bulk of the ceramic element. These grains create a network of semiconductor junctions, which are responsible for the component’s unique current-voltage characteristics. The entire element is encased in a robust, flame-retardant epoxy resin coating, ensuring mechanical integrity and electrical isolation.

Key Protective Function
The critical action of the 07D391K is to clamp transient voltages to a safe, predetermined level, thereby diverting the potentially damaging surge current away from vulnerable components. By absorbing and dissipating the energy from voltage spikes as heat, it effectively limits the voltage across its terminals to a maximum clamping value, ensuring the downstream circuitry remains within its safe operating voltage range.
