The NE5532 is a dual, high-performance audio operational amplifier designed for professional and consumer audio circuits. It combines very low equivalent input noise with high output-drive capability and internally compensated stability so it performs well in unity-gain and closed-loop audio stages. The device is optimized for low distortion and wide bandwidth, making it suitable for precision preamplifiers, active filters and driver stages where audio fidelity matters.

Electrically the NE5532 delivers low noise (≈5 nV/√Hz at 1 kHz), a high unity-gain bandwidth (≈10 MHz) and a fast slew rate (≈9 V/µs), allowing clean reproduction of audio transients and low THD in moderate-to-high-gain configurations. It includes input-protection diodes and output short-circuit protection, and is compensated for reliable operation in many standard topologies. Typical supply rails are ±5 V to ±15 V for best dynamic range.

Mechanically the NE5532 is available in through-hole PDIP and surface-mount SOIC/SOP packages; the SOIC/SOP (SO-8) SMD versions are commonly used on modern PCBs. The combination of low noise, high slew rate, high gain and robust output drive makes the NE5532 a go-to dual op amp for audio preamps, mixers, tone controls, active equalizers and other high-performance analogue audio blocks.
