NTC Thermistor SCL-082LS
The SCL-082LS is an Inrush Current Limiting NTC Thermistor, a specialized electronic component designed to protect circuits from high inrush currents at startup. It is crafted from a semiconductor ceramic material that exhibits a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC), meaning its electrical resistance decreases as its temperature increases. This core property is the foundation of its protective function.
At the initial moment of power application, the thermistor is at room temperature and presents a high resistance to the flowing current. This high resistance effectively suppresses the sudden surge of current, preventing potential damage to sensitive components. As current passes through the thermistor, it begins to self-heated due to its own power dissipation.
The heat generated internally causes the component’s temperature to rise, which in turn triggers a significant drop in its electrical resistance. This self-heating process allows the thermistor to transition from a current-limiting state to a low-resistance conductor, minimizing its impact on the circuit’s normal operation and power efficiency once the system has stabilized.
