Smoke and Flammable MQ-2 Gas Sensor

The MQ-2 Gas Sensor is a highly sensitive semiconductor sensor engineered to detect a wide array of flammable gases and smoke, making it an essential component for safety and monitoring applications. Its sensing element, composed of tin dioxide (SnO2), exhibits low conductivity in clean air but increases conductivity significantly when exposed to target gases such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), methane, propane, hydrogen, alcohol, and smoke. This characteristic enables precise detection across a concentration range of 300 to 10,000 parts per million (ppm), ensuring reliable performance in diverse environments.

Connections

Connecting five volts across the heating (H*) pins keeps the sensor hot enough to function correctly. Connecting five volts at either the A or B pins causes the sensor to emit an analog voltage on the other pins. A resistive load between the output pins and ground sets the sensitivity of the detector. Please note that the picture in the datasheet for the top configuration is wrong. Both configurations have the same pinout consistent with the bottom configuration. The resistive load should be calibrated for your particular application using the equations in the datasheet, but a good starting value for the resistor is 20 kΩ. MQ2 Gas sensor basic wiring details

For Sensor
1 H -Pins Out of the two H pins, one pin is connected to supply and the other to ground
2 A-Pins The A pins and B pins are interchangeable. These pins will be tied to the Supply voltage.
3 B-Pins The A pins and B pins are interchangeable.   One pin will act as output while the other will be pulled to ground.
Applications:
  • Detects or measure Gases like LPG, Alcohol, Propane, Hydrogen, CO and even methane.
  • Air quality monitor.
  • Gas leak alarm.
  • Safety standard maintenance.
  • Maintaining environment standards  in hospitals.
Package Include:

1x Smoke and Flammable MQ-2 Gas Sensor.
