Heatsink Selection Guide
Again, a heatsink is required for the TDA7388 Audio Power Amplifier Board since this IC dissipates significant heat during operation, and proper cooling prevents thermal limiting, distortion, and long-term damage. We provide this guide for you to choose a suitable size for your heatsink based on your needs and use cases:
- Light use (testing, low volume, short sessions): small aluminium heatsink of Approx. size 60 × 30–40 × 15–20 mm
- Recommended use (typical home or car audio, moderate continuous power): medium extruded aluminium heatsink with fins of Approx. size 100 × 35–40 × 25–35 mm
- Heavy use (high volume, long operation, poor airflow, 4Ω speakers): large finned aluminium heatsink of Approx. size 150–200 × 50–60 × 40–60 mm or larger. Consider adding a fan.
Installation tips:
- Always use a thermal pad or thermal paste between the IC and the heatsink.
- Ensure full contact with the amplifier’s metal tab or PCB heat pad.
- If the board is enclosed, choose a larger heatsink or provide ventilation.
