The TIP147 is a PNP complementary power Darlington transistor manufactured using planar technology with a specific “base island” layout. Its core is a monolithic Darlington configuration, which means two transistors are integrated onto a single silicon chip. This arrangement connects the emitters and collectors in a way that the current amplified by the first transistor is further amplified by the second, resulting in a single device with a very high overall current gain.
