The CD4006 18-stage static shift register belongs to the CD4000 IC series. The IC is comprised of four separate shift register sections, two sections of four stages, and two sections of five stages. Each section has an independent data input. Outputs are available at the fourth stage and the fifth stage of each section. A common clock signal is used for all stages. Data is shifted to the next stage on the negative-going transition of the clock. The IC always comes in a 14 – pin hermetically sealed dual in line package (DIP). CD4006 offers a wide array of features such as high noise immunity and ESD barring.

Static Shift Register?

Static Shift registers are digital memory circuitry found in devices such as calculators, computers, and data processing systems. With a shift register, data or bits are entered into the system in a serial or parallel manner. data entry is done from one direction, and as more data is added, it shifts positions until the data gets to the output end. The two ends are referred to as the left and right end. The movement of data can be from left to right, from right to left, or in both directions to make a bidirectional register.
