How To Use DW01A
The DW01A is an easy-to-use battery protection IC that combines the features of overvoltage, undervoltage, and overcurrent detection in one IC that comes in a compact SOT-23-6 package. This IC needs two external MOSFETs to switch the battery current, as well as a few passive components. Shown below is an example of a battery protection circuit diagram.
The overvoltage and undervoltage thresholds are set internally, at 4.3V and 2.4V respectively, and the release thresholds are 4.1V and 3.0V respectively. The overcurrent section depends on the on-resistance of the external MOSFETs. There is also a small delay time so that the IC does not false-trigger on short current bursts. The overcurrent threshold is 150mV and the short circuit threshold is 1.2V, measured with respect to ground. The formula for finding out the required ON Resistance for a given current trip point is:
RDS(ON) = VTH/(2*ITH)
Where RDS(ON) is the ON Resistance of the MOSFET, VTH is the overcurrent threshold voltage and ITH is the current limit threshold.
