The TOP253YN is a monolithic integrated off-line switcher that incorporates a 700V power MOSFET, a high-voltage switched current source, PWM control, oscillator, and protective circuitry into a single TO-220-7C package. This high level of integration eliminates many external components, simplifying power supply design. During normal operation, the duty cycle of the internal power MOSFET decreases linearly with increasing current at the CONTROL pin, enabling precise output regulation.

The device features multi-mode operation to optimize efficiency across the entire load range. At heavy loads, it operates in full-frequency PWM mode (selectable 66 kHz or 132 kHz). As load decreases, it smoothly transitions to variable frequency mode, then low-frequency PWM, and finally multi-cycle modulation mode at light loads.
