“ESP32” is a family of chips from Espressif. They are not interchangeable, so pick the chip by what your project needs.

Quick rules
- Need classic Bluetooth (serial or audio)? Use the original ESP32. The S3, C3, C6 and H2 only do Bluetooth LE.
- Camera, touch display or on-device AI? Choose the ESP32-S3.
- Smallest and cheapest Wi-Fi + BLE node? Choose the ESP32-C3.
- Smart home with Matter or Thread? Choose the ESP32-C6 (or ESP32-H2 if you do not need Wi-Fi).
- 38-pin boards expose more GPIO pins than 30-pin boards with the same chip. If your computer does not detect a board, install the driver for its USB-to-serial chip (CH340, CH9102 or CP2102).
