74LS242 Quadruple Bus Transceiver With Inverted Three-State Outputs DIP-14 IC
The 74LS242 is a quadruple bus transceiver containing four bidirectional transceiver channels for communication between two 4-bit digital buses. It supports two-way asynchronous data transfer, with separate control inputs allowing data to be transferred from the A bus to the B bus, from the B bus to the A bus, or with both buses isolated. Its inverted three-state outputs allow the device to be disconnected electrically from the buses when disabled.
The two enable inputs provide flexible control of the data direction and output states. The device is useful in digital systems where multiple circuits share common buses, helping control bus access and prevent unwanted interference between connected devices. The 14-pin DIP version provides four A-side connections, four B-side connections, two enable inputs, power, and ground.
