Operating as a Common Anode device, it requires a positive supply voltage to be switched across its four digit-enable pins (Anodes) while the individual segment shapes (A-G), decimal points, and specialized colon indicators are activated by pulling their corresponding cathode pins to ground through current-limiting resistors. Its GaAsP/GaP construction provides a high-intensity 585 nm yellow output designed for visibility in professional test equipment and industrial panels, offering significantly better mechanical stability and corrosion resistance via its copper-plated contact pads compared to the standard through-hole DIP packages found in basic consumer electronics.
