The TOP222P is part of the TOPSwitch-II family of three-terminal off-line PWM switches. It integrates a high-voltage power MOSFET, PWM controller, high-voltage startup circuit, loop compensation, current limiting, auto-restart, and thermal protection into a single IC, reducing the number of external components required for a switching power supply. The device is designed for high-efficiency power conversion and can be used in flyback, forward, boost, and buck topologies.
The TOP222P uses an 8-lead PDIP package, with multiple SOURCE pins providing the primary-side return and helping transfer heat directly into the PCB. It operates with primary-side or optocoupler feedback and supports both discontinuous and continuous conduction modes. The internal oscillator operates at a nominal 100 kHz, while cycle-by-cycle current limiting, auto-restart, and thermal shutdown provide protection during overload and fault conditions.
